Research Project

Protecting the environment: for the benefit or at the expense of development?

The purpose of this project is to analyze the way in which environmental issues relate to development issues in a global framework that takes into account work (and therefore unemployment), consumption, quality and ownership structure, in order to investigate how and to what extent it is possible to protect the environment while ensuring harmonious development.

About

Rim Lahmandi-Ayed is a full professor of economics in Higher School of Statistics and Information Analysis (ESSAI, University of Carthage), a public engineering school in Tunisia she led (2011-2017). She founded (2014) and had been managing a research laboratory «Economic and Statistic Modeling and Analysis » until 2023. She founded and had managed a research master in economic modeling and econometrics in Tunisia Polytechnic School (2004-2013). She is a graduate of the prestigious French engineering school, Ecole Polytechnique, and a doctor in economics. She is a member of the steering committee of the Euro-African Conference in Finance and Economics (now Mediterranean Workshop of Economic Theory, SAET) and has been a member of the scientific and organizing committee of all its editions since 2006. She supervised 4 doctoral theses, in collaboration with French colleagues from Paris 1 and Aix-Marseille. She published numerous articles in industrial economics and economic theory, in relation with product differentiation, labor market, general equilibrium, globalization, poverty, environment, education. She is associate editor of Journal of Public Economic Theory, Journal of Mathematical Economics and International Review of Environmental and Resource Economics. She was elected in 2022 as fellow of the Econometric Society and as Economic Theory fellow. She is serving (after an election) as a member of the Africa Regional Standing Committee of the Econometric Society since January 2024.
